Former Brexit Party MEP Belinda de Lucy launched a furious rant on talkRADIO slamming Prime Minister Boris Johnson for “moving the goalposts” on the lockdown roadmap. She went on to say how lockdown and restrictions “kill”, slammed the government for spreading fear amongst Britons, and demanded lockdown ends on June 21. Recent days have seen concerns rise over a possible extension to the lockdown easing timetable as the Indian coronavirus variant spreads through communities in Britain throwing the June 21 unlocking date into jeopardy. The Prime Minister told the BBC that he was unable to give a clear answer on whether the new variant will change the easing plans in England.
Ms de Lucy stressed: “We are never going to live in a zero covid society.
“Unless we are seriously considering shutting out borders forever – then we will never not be at risk of new variants.”
She hit home saying: “So I think it is unrealistic, I think we need to learn to live with the risk.
“Those that have their vaccination and the top-up are well away from harm.”

Ms de Lucy added: “And I think we have to move on and we have to learn to live with the virus now.
“The hospital rates are so much lower… we are in such a different place than we were last year.”
And in a passionate statement, she pleaded: “Restrictions, lockdown, it kills! It affects mental health and it kills businesses!”
She went on to say how “people have really done their best and they have gone along with it.”
Boris Johnson fails to rule out returning to local lockdowns
But the furious Brexiteer added: “You cannot keep moving the goalposts because we will all end up just living in fear.
“And we will get out of the habit of taking risks.”
Ms de Lucy’s comments come as Boris Johnson yesterday failed to rule out the possibility of local lockdowns as the Indian variant spreads across the UK.
Mr Johnson told reporters: “As things stand I can see nothing conclusive in the data to say that we have to deviate from the present roadmap but we have got to be cautious and will be letting people know in a few days’ time.”

He added: “We have just got to be cautious about the way we approach it.
“We are trying to understand whether the Indian variant is more transmissible and if so, by how much more it is transmissible and trying to understand to what extent our vaccine programme has sufficiently fortified us all against it.”
According to Health Secretary Matt Hancock there have now been a confirmed 2,323 cases of the Indian variant in the UK, identified in 86 local authorities across the country.
And it is now causing the majority of covid infections in places such as Bolton, Blackburn, Bedford, Chelmsford and Canterbury and Sefton in the North-West.
