Following the announcement of the deal with Australia, Trade Secretary Liz Truss revealed imports of beef from the EU will be slashed from 230,000 tonnes as the new trade agreement comes into place. Commenting on the Express.co.uk story, readers revelled as the EU is set to be punishment by a massive reduction in imports to the UK. One person said: “That’s Ireland screwed.
“Maybe they should have played nicer considering we’re one of their biggest meat exports.”
A second added that the EU will begin not to see the repercussions of a massive loss of trade to such a large market.
They said: “It isn’t British farmers that need to be worried, it is the EU farming community.
“Buying from a different source will reduce our reliance on EU beef etc.
“ROI being one country who again will feel the repercussions of this.”
A third said: “The EU is getting hammered.
“Of course Remainers forget the EU have lost their biggest market and second-biggest economy.
“To think we paid the £20billion a year, they should have paid us for access to our market since they had an export surplus with the UK.”

Heralding the landmark agreement, Ms Truss revealed the UK will look to rebalance beef imports over a period of 15 years.
While the EU is a substantial exporter, Ms Truss claimed the UK will provide Australia with the same market access as countries across the channel.
Ms Truss told Sky News: “We are going to give Australia the same access the EU have to our market.
“The EU already has quota-free access to the UK – they already sell us 230,000 tonnes of beef per year.

“What this deal is talking about is next year it will be 35,000 tonnes.”
While some had feared for UK farmers from a deal with Australia, the UK has included a cap on tariff-free imports for 15 years.
This will allow UK farmers to adjust to the new changes to trade and protect the industry, Ms Truss has claimed.
Under the agreement, Brits under the age of 35 will also be given the chance to move more freely to Australia.
Commenting on the deal, the Prime Minister said: “Today marks a new dawn in the UK’s relationship with Australia, underpinned by our shared history and common values.
“Our new free-trade agreement opens fantastic opportunities for British businesses and consumers, as well as young people wanting the chance to work and live on the other side of the world.
“This is global Britain at its best – looking outwards and striking deals that deepen our alliances and help ensure every part of the country builds back better from the pandemic.”
