Adams County Sheriff’s deputy arrested on suspicion of child abuse causing injury

A 30-year-old Adams County sheriff’s deputy has been arrested on suspicion of child abuse causing serious bodily injury.

Robert Joseph Slater Sheetz, of Brighton, was arrested after police were called to Children’s Hospital on a child abuse report involving an infant child, according to a news release.

“The alleged assault occurred at the Sheetz family home in Brighton in the early morning hours of September 18,” police said.

Sheetz has been a deputy since September of 2016 and he worked at the jail, according to the sheriff’s office. He has been place on administrative leave, per policy, pending the outcome of the case.

Police investigators will present their felony case against Sheetz to the Adams County District Attorney’s Office later this week, the release said.
