Body of Michelle Scott is found in Conifer area ravine is identified, and Wayne Lotz is in custody

A suspect has been arrested for investigation of first-degree murder in connection to the body of a woman being found in a ravine in the Conifer area.

On Sunday, Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 27000 block of South Timber Trail on a welfare check, neighbors were concerned about a resident who hadn’t been seen for a couple of days, according to a news release.

Investigators recovered the body of 55-year-old Michele Scott in the area of Pleasant Park and High Gate roads, according to the sheriff’s office.

Evidence found on the victim’s property led investigators to her ex-boyfriend, Wayne Lotz, 58, the release said.

On Monday, Lotz was found driving Scott’s 2005 SUV and he was in possession of her debit card, the release said. He was arrested for investigation of aggravated motor vehicle theft and criminal possession of a financial device.

After the body was found on Tuesday afternoon, Lotz was held on investigation of first-degree murder, tampering with evidence and tampering with a body, the sheriff’s office said. An investigation is ongoing.
