Joe Biden issued a triumphant rallying call during the Munich Security Conference but failed to mention the UK. The US President hailed the partnership between the United States and Europe as the “cornerstone” of his plans.
President Biden said: “America is back and I speak to you today as President of the United States and I am sending a very clear message to the world, America is back.
“The transatlantic alliance is back, we are not looking back, we are looking forward together.
“The partnership between Europe and United States in my view is and must remain the cornerstone of all that we hope to accomplish in the 21st century, just as we did in the 20th century.”
He added: “Let me erase any doubt, the United States will work closely with our European Union partners and capitals across the continent from Rome to Riga to meet the range of shared challenges we face.”
President Biden also fired a subtle dig at his predecessor Donald Trump.
The US President said: “I know the past few years have strained and tested our transatlantic relationship but the United States is determined to reengage with Europe, to consult with you and earn back our position of trust and leadership.”
