Camera catches dying moments of man as son swears he saw dads spirit leave body

A man believes he saw his dad's spirit leave his body in his final moments in a video he uploaded online.

For most people, the death of a loved one is private matter, often kept within closed circles of the closest friends and family. While people offer their condolences, generally they don't ask for any details about the death that aren't already disclosed by the grieving person.

However, Mark Noonan captured the dying moments of his father on camera and posted it to YouTube, garnering nearly 8.8 million views and has inspired just shy of 30,000 comments.

In the video, a glowing orb appears to rise up in the air before fading away. Mark believes that this mysterious light was his father's spirit.

Mark's father and subject of the video was Joseph Dennis Noonan, 89, of Jefferson City, Missouri. He passed away in 2018 at his home, five months shy of his 90th birthday.

An IP camera (internet protocol camera) was set up in Joseph's room initially as a way for the family to keep track of his caregivers and to keep an eye on him. Footage was available to family members 24/7 from 'Joe's Bedroom'.

The clip begins with a voiceover from Mark stating: "This is a video of the last few minutes of dad’s life. Mom had been with him throughout the night and heard the death rattle but she went on to bed.

"Then suddenly I woke up at 6 o’clock, checked on dad, then went in to talk to mom and said 'I think it’s the very end'. She said to go ahead and sit with him myself, she doesn’t even remember saying anything to me so I think dad waited until she was gone to be able to die."

Mark speculated in the video description that Joseph had waited until his wife was out of the room so that "her energy and love was not holding him to the earth".

The sound of 'the death rattle' can be clearly heard throughout most of the footage. A natural noise which is caused by phlegm or secretions rolling backwards and forwards in the airway.

The video then shows Mark sitting down at Joseph's bedside, holding his hand, before beginning to sing Amazing Grace.

Mark then talks about all of the 'spirits' of relatives who are waiting to greet his father including his aunt Jeanette who had recently passed away.

Mark has since spoken to a few people in the comment section left under the video, replying to one in particular saying: "I am overwhelmed by the emotion, prayers, love, and support that total strangers are giving me and my family. I feel the energy when I read the comments."

The question asked by many curious viewers of course is why Mark wanted to upload the video to his YouTube account in the first place. This is something which Mark responded to within the video description that he added to five months after releasing the footage.

Mark said: “The video was only made public since I wanted to share it with family and friends and I did not think it would go much further. It was not planned to film his death but only discovered later from the IP camera footage put in place to keep track of caregivers.

“My dad Joe had a wonderful life and a spiritually rich and supportive death. He raised us six kids with faith and knowledge of God and we have a certainty of spirits that proceed on to heaven.

"We had two years to say goodbye as he gradually slipped away mentally. Never in any pain, surrounded by the love of family and his wife of 76 years.

"Mom was ready. She sat with his body for several hours to pray and to say her final goodbyes. We as siblings held hands and sang and prayed around his bed after he died.

"Death is a transition. As happy as a birth is into this realm a death here may be the beginning of the birth in the next existence. At any rate, death will eventually come to each of our doorways. Why spend this life fearing and holding grief around this inevitable doorway. Make the exit your friend so the life here can be boundless and unattached.

“I am truly blessed to have been led to dad's bedside to send him off with music, love, and good energy. Of course I believe I was guided to be there. It was a privilege and honour to be a part of that magical, mystical transition."

It appears that the impressive millions of views is mainly due to people believing that the clip shares an insight into a peaceful death, normalising the topic and providing hope.

One person commented: "Some people think this video somehow dishonours the dying, offends propriety and decency.

"I feel you've given us still living profound insights. As other people have said, this is truly authentic and deeply moving. Would that all people can share the simple reality and learn something about ourselves and our connection with all who go before us."

Another stated: "Mark, it was a privilege to see this film. Your voice is beautiful singing or speaking. How blessed he was to have you there. How blessed you are to have been there.

"I thank you for those who will come to the hard time of seeing loved ones depart for another place. You have provided courage with compassion.

"I remain grateful you were there. You have given hope to millions."
