Driver who fell asleep, killed 2 in Summit County crash gets 21 months in jail
An Aurora man who caused a fatal two-vehicle crash in Summit County has been sentenced to 21 months in jail.
Adrian Delgado, 25, was sentenced today after pleading guilty to careless driving resulting in death and careless driving resulting in injury, according to the district attorney’s office.
On Oct. 3, 2019, Delgado was driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck on U.S. Highway 6 in Dillon when the truck crossed a median hitting a Ford F-150 truck, according to a news release. Larry “Mike” Kennedy, 58, driver of the Ford and Ronnie Suenram, 59, died in the crash. The wives of both men were severely injured. The victims, from Oklahoma, were on vacation in Colorado at the time.
Delgado fell asleep behind the wheel as he was driving to work in the early morning hours, the release said. Delgado entered a plea agreement in the case on July 28.
Judge Edward Casias also sentenced Delgado to 200 hours of community service.
