Fountain officers shoot, injure man during domestic violence incident
Fountain police officers shot and injured a man Sunday night after he was reportedly intoxicated and shot at officers following a domestic incident involving a child, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Officers responded about 6:45 p.m. to a reported domestic violence incident at a home in the 6900 block of Village Meadows Drive in Fountain. A woman reported her husband was intoxicated at the house and wouldn’t let her leave the home with their son, the sheriff’s office said.
She said she had been able to escape the home, but their son was still in the home with the man.
When officers arrived at the house, a man came out of the house and fired “at least one round” at the officers.
“At least one officer returned fire with at least one round, striking the suspect at least one time,” the sheriff’s office said.
The man then “violently resisted” officers while they tried to place him in custody, and a taser was used on him. The man was then taken to a hospital for surgery, the sheriff’s office said.
The child was rescued from the home uninjured.
No officers were injured.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the shooting.
