Girlfriend of lovesick jetski lockdown breaker says she wants to marry him

A young woman living on the Isle of Man has revealed she would marry her boyfriend if he asked her – just days after he was jailed for breaking Covid rules when he sailed a jetski 25 miles to go and see her.

Dale McLaughlan made the treacherous 25-mile voyage in a desperate effort to see Jessica Radcliffe, reports the Daily Record.

The 28-year-old, from Irvine, set off on the four-and-a-half hour trip to visit Jessica, 30, despite never having ridden a water scooter before and being unable to swim.

However, the romantic gesture landed the roofer in jail after he was sentenced to four weeks in prison for breaking Covid-19 rules.

But Jessica has revealed she would tie the knot with the Dale if he proposes.

Mum-of-two Jessica, who is a healthcare worker, said: “I’ve had messages from all over the world.

“People from Italy have sent pictures of jetskis saying, ‘This is for your boyfriend, showing our support.’

“People from Ireland have said, ‘What he did is heroic. You should marry that man.’

“If he asks me, I’ll say yes. It’s definitely a story to tell our grandkids.”

When dad-of-two Dale landed on a beach 15 miles from Jessica’s home on the island’s Douglas, the jetski had 10 minutes’ worth of fuel in the tank.

Jessica said he hadn’t expected the journey to last as long, assuming it would only take 40 minutes.

After he arrived on the shore, Dale then had to walk from Ramsey to Douglas before he was able to see his lover. The pair met in September, when he was legally working on the island.

Jessica says she was unaware he had travelled by jetski from the Isle of Whithorn until the police knocked on her door two days after he arrived.
