Heart-stopping moment mans ladder slips over while putting up Christmas lights

The security camera fixed to a pensioner's house captured the heart-stopping moment he plummeted from a ladder while putting up Christmas decorations on the outside of his house.

John Lawless, 72, was miraculously unhurt in the terrifying accident after his ladder slipped on his driveway, sending him hurtling towards the ground.

John fell face-first from his first-floor gutters, through a Christmas tree, and onto the drive below, as reported by YorkshireLive.

He said: "I'd been up and down all morning and whether I was overconfident or not I don't know.

"The wife had been standing on the bottom of the ladder all morning and I didn't realise she wasn't there."

His wife Catherine can be seen in the video, trying to help after the shocking fall.

John was pretty upbeat about escaping with bruising to his arm and some cuts on his face from the Christmas tree.

He added: "That Christmas tree at the bottom went down the side of my face and took quite a bit of skin off the forehead, side of my nose and my cheek but it also cut the inside of my mouth. But it's all right, I can live with that."
