A severely starved dog with terrible pressure wounds was found dumped in a park – with the hunt now on for its cruel owner.

The abused animal was discovered on Monday night by a member of the public walking in Summerfield Park in Edgbaston, Birmingham.

The sick pooch is now in the care of the RSPCA, and was so seriously underweight that he was hardly able to stand and all of his rib bones were visible.

RSPCA inspector Vikki Taylor said: "It is so sad to see how emaciated and weak this dog is and it appears he has probably been left laying down on a hard surface – maybe in a garden or kennel – for long periods of time which has caused pressure wounds.

"These have become infected probably because he has been left lying in his own faeces and urine.

"He just doesn't seem used to walking at all – it is so sad.”

The poor pup is having emergency treatment to mend his wounds and vets are concerned he may have some underlying health issues.

Ms Taylor added: “He is a lovely friendly dog in spite of what he has clearly been through.”

She said that she was grateful to the public hero who found him and alerted the RSCPA.

She stated: "I believe his owner deliberately decided to dump him and left him in such a weak and neglected state in the park at night.”

The RSPCA is looking for any information about who owned the dog and asks anyone who may have seen anything suspicious at the time the dog was abandoned to come forward.
