The 78-year-old has still failed to give a press conference after 57 days in office, although he is scheduled to finally hold one next week. Various events have caught the eyes and ears of political commentators in recent days, leading to great speculation about his fitness. The oldest President in US history appeared to lose focus and become disorientated while delivering a speech in Houston, Texas at the beginning of March.
Mr Biden also seemed to struggle to remember the name of his Defence Secretary – Lloyd Austin, whom he recently appointed.
The President’s struggles have led the Fox News presenter Tucker Carlson to dub Mr Biden as “America’s Brezhnev”, the former Soviet leader who later in his life became renowned for his public gaffes and frail health.
The Daily Telegraph US editor believes that all the evidence so far points to Mr Biden being a transition President for his Vice-President Kamala Harris.
Nick Allen refers to the blitz of government action initiated by the new President since taking office in January.
This has included issuing a flood of executive orders, pushing through his enormous $1.9 trillion pandemic relief bill and rapidly moving onto a $4 trillion infrastructure programme.
Mr Allen said: “He seems very much like a man in a hurry, not one contemplating an eight-year project.
“Mr Biden is using up his political capital in Congress quickly.”
Furthermore, he argues that the public profile of Ms Harris has been carefully raised in recent weeks.
The Vice-President is due to accompany Mr Biden on visits to the key states of Pennsylvania and Georgia, which the Democrat nominee will need to win in 2024.

“Regardless of how well, or not, he ends up doing the job, he is a transition president.”
