Kim Jong-un alive after sending ‘thank you letter to builders’, North Korea media reports

The Rodong Sinmun newspaper has claimed that the North Korean leader sent a thank you message to builders on a tourism project at a seaside resort, Mail Online reported. Over the weekend, there was speculation that the leader had died after he underwent surgery earlier this month.

The Vice President of Hong Kong Satellite Television Shijian Xingzou claimed he had heard from a “very solid source” that Kim was dead.

State newspaper Rodong Sinmun has now claimed that Kim had written a letter to Wonsan builders who are working on a project in the city.

However the report is yet to be verified, and it’s unclear if an aide of the leader sent the message on his behalf.

Yesterday, South Korea foreign policy adviser Chung-in Moon said that Kim was “alive and well” and his government’s position is that the leader is not dead.

The advisor told Fox: “No suspicious movements have so far been detected.”

Kim is reported to have been living in Wonsan since April 13 as rumours of his death circulated on social media.

Hong Kong TV director Shijian Xingzou who has 15 million followers on Chinese social media Weibo released a report on the death which spread the news initially.

A separate Japanese media outlet also claimed that Kim was in a “vegetative state” after his surgery.

For now, it seems that reports are conflicting, as Chung-in Moon’s claims appear to put rumours to bed.

Backing up the denial of the leader’s death is a North Korean journalist, who wrote a social media post that he had zero trust in the reports.

He wrote: “The health of the Kim family is the secret among secrets.”

A former North Korean diplomat, Yong-ho said it wan unlikely that Kim’s health status had been disclosed by his trusted aides.

It has remained a secret who would take over Kim’s position if he died, but many have suggested that it could be his sister, Kim Yo-Jong.

In recent photos from April 23, Kim’s train is pictured near his Wonsan holiday complex.

The station where the train was parked up at is reserved for the Kim family, although the current leader’s whereabouts are unknown, it is possible that he visited the resort.

Which already hosts nine guesthouses, a recreation centre and a shooting range.

Fuelling the fire of death reports, was US Senator Lindsey Graham who told Fox News that rumours going unanswered were suspicious.

He said: “Well, it’s a closed society, I don’t know anything directly. But I’d be shocked if he’s not dead or in some incapacitated state because you don’t let rumours like this go forever or go unanswered in a closed society, which is really a cult, not a country, called North Korea.

“So I pretty well believe he is dead or incapacitated.

“And I hope the long-suffering North Korean people will get some relief if he is dead, and President Trump’s willing to do business with North Korea in a win-win fashion.

“So, if this guy is dead, I hope the next person who takes over will work with President Trump to make North Korea a better place for everybody.”
