The Met Office’s yellow thunderstorm warning is in effect from midday to 9pm tonight. The weather agency has said their warning covers north of Perth in Scotland to just above Carlisle.
In its short range forecast, the Met Office said Monday would be “another showery” day, with the North seeing the worst of the weather.
They said: “Daytime showers will gradually fade during the evening and overnight leaving clear spells.
“A few mist and fog patches are then possible towards dawn.”
Tuesday would be a “much better day than of late with many areas dry with sunny spells”, with Scotland still suffering showers, before returning on Wednesday according to the agency.
The warning added that: “Heavy showers and thunderstorms may cause flooding and disruption in a few places.”
Craig Snell, Meteorologist at the Met Office, also said: “For a lot of the UK [on Monday] it will be like what we have seen over the weekend – plenty of showers around and some of those showers will be heavy.
“As we head towards the middle of the week, the showers do take a bit of a step back and we generally turn a little bit drier for most as we go into Tuesday.
“There will be some showers around across northern and eastern parts but they won’t be as impactful as they have been.
“Certainly down in the southern half of the UK, we certainly might have a good few decent days towards the second half of the week, where we will replace the showers with some sunshine and some warmer temperatures.”
Other agencies have warned much of England and Wales will also be hit by heavy rain.
Netweather’s forecast said Monday would bring “heavy persistent rain over southern England”.
The agency added: “The downpours are creeping eastwards but currently soaking Isle of Wight, Hampshire, Sussex extending over Surrey Kent.
“Lots of surface water on the roads for Monday Morning.”
