Macron brags about France’s coronavirus response as he declares ‘victory’ on deadly virus

French President Emmanuel Macron addressed the nation in a 20-minute speech to the country. He explained the country would begin to open more widely and travel between bordering European Union member states will open again on Monday. President Macron also bragged about France’s response to coronavirus and insisted the economy would bounce back and start quickly.

He said: “We were able to improve all of the ICU around France we were able to work with our neighbouring European countries and reroute all of our heavy industry to come up with new forms of solidarity to fight this crisis.

“We have been able to see how resourceful our people are.

“We have proven ourselves to be more resourceful than some other countries, we were more reactive and more united than elsewhere around the world and I think we can be proud of that.

“We can be proud of what has happened and what we have done in our country.”

President Macron added the plan to open factories and other workplaces would allow the economy the boost to get kickstarted.

Mr Macron said: “Together, with great methodology, we were able to prepare the post lockdown period.

“We have worked tirelessly to come up with a plan that took into account everyone’s concerns so thanks to that bit by bit people were able to go back to work.

“We have done right by all of our employees in factories and people who work in the logistic division, to get them back to work.

“This new step of lockdown that we are seeing being eased will be able to see people get back to work.

“The economy will be able to be kick-started again and we will be able to ensure that we will protect the most vulnerable.”

Mr Macron also announced that the coronavirus crisis had exposed some flaws in France.

He said: “This crisis has shed light on a number of weaknesses.

“One is the fact that we have to source some of our basic materials from other countries.

“We have a lot of red tape that we have to move through but I think we can use this as a learning exercise and improve on that.

“In some instances, we have performed better but in others, we have performed worse.”
