Motorcyclist dies after crash with motor vehicle in Aurora

A motorcyclist died at a local hospital after a crash in Aurora on Thursday, police said.

The crash happened about 1:15 p.m. on East Yale Avenue at South Truckee Street, according to a news release.

The motorcyclist was driving on a sharp westbound curve onto Yale when he tried to pass a vehicle by using the oncoming traffic lane, police said. The motorcycle collided with an oncoming vehicle traveling eastbound on Yale at Truckee.

People in the vehicle were not injured. The driver remained on the scene.

“The overtaking of the vehicle on a sharp curve by the motorcyclist led to the crash,” police said. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet. An investigation is ongoing. The motorcyclist’s name will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.

Thursday’s crash was the second motorcyclist fatality in Aurora this month. May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, police ask that driver’s be alert for motorcycles and that they check blind spots for riders. Motorcyclists are urged to wear helmets along with additional protective equipment and gear.
