While Lancashire Police maintain that the most likely explanation for Nicola Bulley's disappearance is that she fell into the River Wyre while walking her dog, Superintendent Salley Riley has conceded that there is one exit from the river walk – along Garstang Lane – that is not covered by CCTV.
It therefore remains a possibility, the Superintendent accepted, that Nicola could have left the area by that route – either alone or with a third party.
When asked about the Garstang Lane exit, Supt Riley said: "Yes, that is a possibility but that’s why we appeal for drivers to come forward to try and close off that avenue to at least explain and negate any sightings on that lane"
The police have asked for drivers who may have been in the area on the morning of Friday January 27 to contact them with any potential sightings and to supply any dashcam footage they may have captured.
Some 700 drivers are being contacted by Lancashire Police in hope of obtaining a vital clue.
