One teen killed, another wounded in an Aurora shooting Friday night

A 16-year-old boy was killed and another was wounded following a shooting Friday night in Aurora.

Police responded to a report of a shooting into a vehicle at about 7:07 p.m. Friday, according to a news release, in the area of East 12th Avenue and North Ironton Street. Once at the scene, police said they found a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound sitting in the driver’s seat. The teen was sent to a local hospital where he later died.

Police said the vehicle’s passenger, also a 16-year-old boy, went to the hospital with a gunshot wound and is expected to recover.

The suspect fled the scene before police arrived, officers said.

Aurora Police Major Crimes Homicide Unit’s investigation of this case is ongoing. The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased once his next of kin is notified.
