Panic at UK theme park as visitors run screaming after fight

Panic has broken out at a seaside theme park where thrill-seekers say people were 'running and screaming'.

Essex Police have made a number of arrests at Adventure Island in Southend, Essex after responding "within two minutes" to a call at 4.40pm.

Social media users claim the emergency services were responding to a violent brawl but that has not been confirmed by police.

It has also been claimed that security staff at the theme park were targeted in the alleged scrap.

In their Facebook post shortly before 6pm on Friday, Police were not able to say whether weapons had been used.

Visitors to the resort claim Adventure Island has been evacuated with all rides closing until the issue is resolved.

Someone wrote on Twitter: "How can I go to adventure island and a fight breaks and security starts getting beat up."

Another social media user said: "Not sure what's happening we have been evacuated out of Adventure Island due to a code Red.

"There's loads of Police and other Emergency services here."

Essex Police said in a statement on Facebook: "We are on the scene of an incident at Adventure Island, in Western Esplanade, #Southend.

"We were called shortly before 4.40pm today, Friday 20 August, with reports of an assault.

"Our units arrived within two minutes to begin dealing with the incident. A number of arrests have been made.

"There are no confirmed reports of weapons of any kind being used against anyone.

"We will provide an update when we can."
