Princess Eugenie, the Queen’s granddaughter and Prince Andrew'’s daughter, announced on Tuesday she had given birth to her first child.

Eugenie's son – who she shares with husband Jack Brooksbank – was born at Portland Hospital where she and her sister Princess Beatrice were delivered.

Eugenie, who is 10th in line to the throne, broke Royal tradition when she announced her new arrival.

To announce her baby news she shared a black and white snap of her and Jack holding their kid's hand on Instagram.

While the snap warmed the hearts of the British public, traditionally members of the Royal family announce births at a press conference outside the hospital where their child is born.

Official portraits of new Royal babies are often typically released to celebrate their births – as opposed to via social media posts.

Another difference to this Royal birth is that Eugenie revealed her baby news ten hours after her child was born, but other announcements have come within hours, Hello reports.

The Palace announced the birth of a new Royal baby in a statement, which read: "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie was safely delivered of a son today, 9 February 2021, at 0855hrs at The Portland Hospital. Jack Brooksbank was present. The baby weighs 8lbs 1oz.

"The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of York, Sarah, Duchess of York, and Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank have been informed and are delighted with the news.

"This is Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's first child, The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York's first grandchild, and the ninth great-grandchild for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well."

Eugenie's post received more than 60,000 likes just a few minutes after going online.

The hospital where she gave birth was where former Royals Meghan and Harry welcome their son into the world in 2018.

Eugenie announced her pregnancy on Friday, September 25 2020 about two years shy of her second wedding anniversary in October.

The Queen and her husband the Duke of Edinburgh were said to be "delighted with the news," at the time, according to the Palace.
