Elize Matsunaga waited calmly in an elevator next to three suitcases packed with the chopped up body parts of her husband.

Hours earlier, she had murdered Marcos Matsunaga, 42, before using a knife to chop him into seven parts.

The couple, who had a child together, had ordered pizza to their penthouse apartment in São Paulo, Brazil, but all was not well.

Marcos, a wealthy tycoon, was shot while Elize went to extreme lengths to hide the grisly truth.

Her spine-chilling elevator ride was captured on CCTV and has since been shown worldwide.

She claims to have carried out the brutal murder after her lover’s cheating was exposed.

Recently the mum revealed how she has dreamt of Marcos' bloodied severed head talking to her in her sleep.

And the story behind her horrific crime was recently told in the Netflix docuseries Elize Matsunaga: Once Upon A Crime.

Who is Elize Matsunaga?

Elize had a poverty stricken childhood in Chopinzinho, Paraná, and her father left when she was three.

She was raised with her grandparents and aunt before a brief reunion with her mum and stepfather.

In the Netflix show, Elize claimed she was abused by her stepdad and said she wouldn’t “wish that on any person”.

She ran away from home as a teenager before training to be a nurse in her early 20s.

However, she moved to São Paulo to become a high class escort to pay for college after deciding she wanted to be a lawyer instead.

Her sex work led her to meeting Marcos, a Japanese millionaire businessman, who at the time was married to his first wife.

But that didn’t stop Marcos, heir to food company Yoki, moving in with Elize before he was divorced.

Elize and Marcos eventually got married themselves and had a daughter, Helena, together.

But when Helena was just one, her father’s life came to a tragic end.

Tension was building between the lovers over cheating claims and a row over the custody of their daughter.

And it all led to Marcos’s dismembered corpse being stuffed into a suitcase by Elize.

What was Elize Matsunaga's crime?

Elize, now 47, hired a private investigator to prove that her husband was seeing a mistress.

And on May 19, 2012, Elize returned home after spending three days with her ill grandma.

CCTV footage showed Marcos kicking the elevator before collecting a takeaway pizza from downstairs.

It was the last time he was seen alive.

Elize claimed the pair soon got into a fight after she revealed a private investigator had caught him red handed.

She said she was “scared” with how he reacted and so grabbed a gun from a cabinet and shot him multiple times.

In the show she said: “I still can’t tell you what kind of emotion made me pull that trigger.

“I can’t describe it to you.”

She added: “I can’t even tell you what I felt because I saw him collapsing, and at that moment it seemed the world stopped.”

Instead of calling for help, she dragged the body into a guest room before slicing off his head, arms, torso, groin and legs.

She then stuffed the grisly parts in plastic bags.

Elize insisted Marcos was dead after shooting him but an autopsy concluded that he was alive when he was butchered.

In the docuseries she said she thinks about the murder ever single day.

After the creepy elevator ride, she dumped his remains alongside a road before cleaning her apartment.

His head and other parts were found nine days later and she was arrested on June 4, 2012.

Elize admitted her crimes and was sentenced in 2016 to 19 years in prison.

She was convicted of two felony counts including the murder and concealment of a corpse.

Where is Elize Matsunaga now?

Elize is being held in a closed prison in Tremembe, São Paulo.

And while taking part in the Netflix docuseries, she said people only care about what happened because her husband was a rich man.

She claimed: “The types of crimes I learned about in prison, there are crimes that are way more barbaric than mine, way more shocking than mine, but nobody mentions them.

“Nobody talks about them because the victim wasn’t wealthy. The victim was an ordinary person. Someone poor.”

Elize has not seen her daughter since murdering her father and she said she took part in the Netflix production to give the child her side of the story.
