Shocking moment guard dog mauls girls on street as woman tries to save her

Shocking CCTV footage has emerged of a guard dog attacking two little girls and dragging one on the ground.

The incident in the Salty area of Birmingham left a two-year-old girl with scratch marks and leg injury and a three-year-old girl with hand and leg injury.

The tots were walking with a woman on St Saviour's Road, just after 12.35pm on Monday (February 8) when they were set upon by the guard dog which had run away from a local business.

Footage shared on Facebook shows the black canine running across the street and bolting towards a woman and the two child.

The woman tries to guard the two girls by picking them up but the animal keeps charging at them on the footpath.

Eventually the woman looses her footing and falls to the ground, the dog sinks its teeth on the toddler in dark clothing.

While the woman tries to save the girl, a passing-by BMW driver stops by and rushes to help her.

Nearby residents also join forces to fight off the dog, which is seen dragging the poor girl onto the road.

A man managed to pick up the injured girl and ward the animal off before handing her back to the woman.

The two girls were rushed to Birmingham Children's Hospital where they were treated for their wounds.

West Midlands Police said the dog has been seized.

A statement wrote on Monday: "We had multiple calls reporting a dog attack on two young girls on St Saviours Road in the Saltley area of Birmingham at around 12.35pm this lunchtime.

"An ambulance was immediately sent to the scene. On arrival, the crew found the two girls, one with serious injuries.

"They were both assessed and treated at the scene before being taken on blue lights to Birmingham Children's Hospital where medics were awaiting their arrival.

"It’s understood that a guard dog escaped from a nearby business premises before attacking two small children.

"A three-year-old girl sustained hand and leg injuries after being bitten. A second child, aged two, sustained scratch marks and a leg injury.

"The dog has been seized by police and enquiries are ongoing."
