Two people have been shot following reports of gunfire at a shopping centre in Sweden.

Police rushed to the Emporia shopping centre in Malmo at around 5pm (local time) today (August 19).

Local media confirmed that there had been two victims.

Police Jimmy Modin spokesperson said: "Shots have been fired at the Emporia shopping centre in Malmo.

"The police are at the scene with a large amount of resources and the location has been cordoned off."

He also appealed for witnesses to come forward with more information.

More police are on their way to the scene from the south of the country.

One person at the scene told : "Several crying people say they heard gunfire."

According to, witnesses claim there were about 20 gunshots heard as people fled in the panic.

Their reporter on the ground claimed that the two people are seriously injured.

They added that the shopping centre is being evacuated although it is not clear how many people remain inside.

According to Aftonbladet, as of 5.24pm (local time) there had been no arrest.

They also reported that police confirmed it was no longer an ongoing incident.
