Teacher, 27, arrested after student picks cannabis edibles from class reward box
An elementary school teacher has lost her job after she was arrested when she inadvertently gave a child marijuana edibles in her classroom, officials said.
Victoria Farish Weiss, 27, was teaching a class in Rocky Creek Elementary School in Lexington, South Carolina, when a child pulled cannabis edibles from the classroom reward box.
Now, as well as reportedly losing her job, the teacher faces possession of a Schedule I drug charges as marijuana edibles are illegal in the state.
She turned herself into authorities Friday, the Lexington County Sheriff's Department said, via Fox News. Authorities opened an investigation into the matter on September 23.
"Detectives confirmed during interviews that Weiss took the pack of edibles from the student and told him to pick something else from the box," Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said.
After Weiss took away the first pack of edibles, the student grabbed another packet, reports stated. Police then found similar packets upon searching the teacher's home, authorities stated.
"Marijuana edibles are cannabis-based food products. They come in many forms, but the items in this case were candy," Koon said.
"They’re often packaged in wrappers and bags with logos and colors that look similar to traditional candy brands.

"While they are available in other states and online, they’re illegal in South Carolina," he added.
Thankfully no students consumed any of the dangerous substance. But that wasn't enough to save her job, according to reports, as Lexington School District One officials told WIS-TV that Weiss was no longer employed by the district.
"The safety of our students is our top priority," said Superintendent Dr. Greg Little, according to the news outlet. "It is unacceptable for a staff member to potentially threaten the well-being of a child."
The Daily Star has contacted Rocky Creek Elementary School for comment.
