The President was responding to the stalemate of tonight’s election, with key states seeing unclear results due to a surge in mail-in ballots. After Democrat candidate Joe Biden spoke to supporters in Delaware, Mr Trump took to Twitter to claim the election was rigged. But in a blunder, the president said: “We are up big, but they are trying to steal the election. We will never let them do it. Votes cannot be cast after the poles are closed!”
The President swiftly deleted the post to correct the error, but Twitter has promptly slapped a warning label on the post.
They said: “Some or all of the content shared in this Tweet is disputed and might be misleading about an election or other civic process”.
As it stands, the election is still in a dead heat, with Mr Biden at 223 electoral college votes to Mr Trump’s 212.
Key states such as Arizona, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin and Michigan still in play due to additional votes needing counting.
