Two boys lived with gran’s corpse for a week after she suddenly dropped dead
A five-year-old boy and his seven-year-old brother lived with their grandmother's corpse for a week after she suddenly dropped dead.
Connie Taylor's grandsons were unable to unlock her phone to call for help, but managed to feed, dress and wash themselves for five days.
The alarm was raised when a teacher noticed the prolonged absence from class, and 71-year-old's Connie's body was discovered at their home in Talty, Texas.
When officers arrived at the home, the brothers opened the door and told them "their mom had passed out" and was laying on the floor, reports NBCDFW.
The boys had survived by eating food from the refrigerator and the pantry.
Kristen Zastoupil, from Forney Independent School District, said: "They knew something was not right. They are used to communicating with this parent. And so when they didn’t get a response, they knew something was off."
According to the Metro, Connie is believed to have died of natural causes, with an autopsy now set to determine the cause of her death.
The unidentified boys, who were adopted by their grandmother, have been taken into foster care while another relative applies for custody of them.
She had formally adopted the pair from foster care only a month before her death.
Police say the boys are doing well following the trauma they experienced.
Taylor was a loving mother to her grandsons, a family friend said.
