Wetherspoons investigated after claims Brit pub is a coronavirus ‘free for all’
A Wetherspoons is being investigated after fuming customers complained about it was one boozer was a “free for all” with no social distancing.
The Bradley Green in Biddulph, Stoke, is being probed by the giant pub chain after a punter said groups were flouting Covid-19 restrictions.
The fuming pug-goer said the boozer was not cleaning tables, marking distances, or taking details for track and trace.
One woman who visited the pub told the Stoke Sentinel : “Sitting in Wetherspoons, and it’s a free for all. People are coming and going but tables not cleaned until I pointed it out.
"Nobody is monitoring social distancing, there's no signage on the floor other than the queue to the bar.
"I went to On Tap before coming here, focus is on safety all the time, somebody leaves, tables are cleaned and sprayed, asked to use hand sanitiser etc.
"What Wetherspoons is going to look like at 10pm is anybody’s guess.
"I'm not blaming the staff but Wetherspoons should ensure that there are adequate people to maintain the rules just now."
And another punter claimed: "It’s not up to customers to remind staff to clean their tables. They should be on it red hot at the moment to stop the spread of the virus.
"Obviously customers are not abiding by the rules so staff have to make sure they do.

"If you run a business it’s your job to make absolutely sure that everyone is as safe as possible the whole time."
In a lengthy statement pub giant Wetherspoons has said it will be investigating the issues – but insisted strict measures were in place.
A spokesman said: “We have been informed of a complaint to a member of kitchen staff and this is being investigated.
“Regular checks by our area management and auditing teams indicate the pub is being run to a high standard.
"Having said that, we will, of course, make the team at the pub aware of these observations and will ensure that the pub is revisited to double-check.
“Since reopening, Wetherspoon has implemented a number of social distancing measures in all its pubs. These include; reduced capacity levels, the spacing out of tables, the installation of a number of floor screens between tables and the addition of till-surround screens to the bar.
"While it is not possible to create an entirely risk-free environment, adherence to social distancing guidelines and rigorous implementation of hygiene standards minimises the risk."
