Retro gaming fans are begging for the return of a video game series which changed the course of multiplayer fun 18 years ago.

Time flies and for those fondly remembering the Guitar Hero franchise, it may be time for another reboot. That is what one Reddit thread is hoping for anyway, though the chances of a rhythm gaming return are slim.

The franchise put players in their very own rock band and had them play along to their favourites, from Dick Dale to Pearl Jam. Later games in the series added the likes of Queen, Boston and even Taylor Swift in the ill-forgotten Band Hero instalment.

Those lucky enough to still own a Guitar Hero controller may find themselves wanting to boot the game up after it made the rounds in a retro gaming thread.

One user asked which franchises they wish would make a return to the mainstream, and though a botched next generation launch brought both Guitar Hero and Rock Band back to the fold, it is the classics people are holding out hope for.

A total of 85 users agreed with one poster claiming they wished Guitar Hero would make a return. The hit series saw a number of spin-offs to its name, including competition from Rock Band. Said competitor managed to bag The Beatles and AC/DC for unique games in the series.

Gamers hoping for the return of the series could be in luck as Activision comment on potential artificial intelligence use when it comes to the future of the franchise. It may be a few years away, but according to Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick, it could be possible, Kotaku reported.
