A woman hit out at a takeaway for charging nearly \u00a35 for a carton of chips, but the owner has defended the price.<\/p>\n
ScotRail worker Margaret Menassa took to Facebook to rage against George Street Fish and Chip Shop in Oban (which is often referred to as the "seafood capital of Scotland") after paying \u00a34.80 for a box of plain chips.<\/p>\n
"\u00a34.80 for this is scandalous George Street Fish and Chip Shop," she said, sharing a photo of her portion.<\/p>\n

But owner John Stewart says the price of the chips is reasonable when considering the price of ingredients and running the restaurant, particularly during the cost of living crisis.<\/p>\n

Mr Stewart told Press and Journal: "It is always difficult to get the right price, and we did not do it without thinking about it first. We want to keep our staff \u2013 and while other businesses might cut staff over the winter, our staff remain with us and we want to make sure we look after them we.<\/p>\n
"As anyone working in hospitality will know, it is very difficult to make money in the winter. We pay our staff above the minimum wage, we treat them at Christmas and we always pay bonuses for those staff members who put in such hard work over the summer."<\/p>\n
He explained that the prices of both potatoes and oil have doubled, which is reflected in the menu costs. Mr Stewart said anybody who feels they have not got enough chips in their portion can return to the shop, adding: "We really want our customers to be happy."<\/p>\n

Margaret has since updated her status and confirmed the store reworked their portion size.<\/p>\n
She wrote: "Have spoken to a member of staff and this is not the normal size portion was down to having new staff members. We all make mistakes so looking forward to a larger portion next time."<\/p>\n
