Get the biggest stories and wackiest takes from the Daily Star, including our special WTF Wednesday email<\/p>\n<p>We have more newsletters<\/p>\n<p>Notorious hardman Dave Courtney\u2019s former girlfriend has revealed the ex-gangster was really a \u201cbig softie\u201d despite all his bravado.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after Courtney, 64, tragically took his own life with a firearm in south London. Now his former partner, Deborah Price has spoken out about what the ex-gangster was really like. The pair were in a relationship from 2013 to 2018 and Price was a regular visitor to Courtney\u2019s home, dubbed \u2018Camelot Castle\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe could be really soppy and I think was a big softie deep down. I remember he was dismissive of the treatment offered by doctors at the time, but later changed his mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, the devoted former girlfriend described her old love Courtney as \u201cvery charismatic and charming\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;He made people feel good about themselves,&quot; she said. &quot;He also provided people with advice on how to deal with various matters. He really was very good with people.&quot;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article31303505.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615b\/0_dave-debbie-hp-7.jpg\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<figure data-mod=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article31293220.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s458\/5_BANNER-I-was-captured-by-the-Taliban-but-nothing-will-be-as-bad-as-old-life-in-Birmingham.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p> &apos;I was captured by the Taliban but nothing will be as bad as living in Birmingham&apos;<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/s2-prod.mirror.co.uk\/@trinitymirrordigital\/chameleon-branding\/publications\/dailystar\/img\/logo-schema-dailystar.png\"><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Courtney was a member of the notorious Richardson gang based in south London in the 1960s, a group that rivalled the infamous Kray Firm.<\/p>\n<p>According to Price, Courtney was part of the inspiration behind the Big Chris character played by Vinnie Jones in the British gangster film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cI think the role played by Vinnie was partly based on Dave.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article31303506.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615b\/0_dave-debbie-hp-1.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Just hours before Courtney took his own life, he was watching Charlton Athletic play Reading, enjoying the \u201cfull works\u201d of a three-course meal in the hospitality suite at Charlton&apos;s Valley Ground in London.<\/p>\n<p>Courtney posted pictures of himself having the lavish meal on social media, but took his life later that day.
