Prince William displayed inner tension and even anger with one subtle gesture in a new photo, an expert has claimed.

The Prince of Wales – along with King Charles, Queen Camilla and his wife, Kate Middleton – put on a united front in the official royal snap. The image was taken before the annual glittering Diplomatic Corps reception yesterday (Tuesday, December 5) which sees the royals host 500 members in the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace.

The photo came after royal aides stressed it was "business as usual" for the Firm after the palace became embroiled in a race row following the publication of Omid Scobie's explosive new book, Endgame. A Dutch translation of the biography named Charles and the Princess of Wales as the royals who allegedly spoke of "concerns" about the skin colour ofPrince Harry and Meghan Markle's son Archie before he was born.

Body language expert Judi James believes it is William who appears to be the most tense in the snap. She told The Mirror: "The body poses and subtle angles here do confirm the idea of continuing unity. Charles and his eldest son stand side by side and their mirrored inward head tilts would signal aligned thinking and a sense of taking an agreed stance.

"William and Kate suggest a degree of optimism and there is some humour in William's expression although he does seem to have acquired a trait of slightly clenched teeth as he smiles since the recent book claims, hinting at inner tension or even anger."

James added both Camilla and Kate were stood close to their husbands and stood slightly behind them in an outward show of support. Meanwhile the Prince and Princess of Wales could also be seen mirroring each other's poses.

The body language expert added the royal putting on the biggest show of resilience amid the tough times is an unlikely one – Camilla. She added: "Camilla's facial expression and smile have the greatest impact here.

"She normally has a tendency to look slightly nervous or passive when grouped with her husband and his glamorous son and daughter-in-law but here her facial expression is the most active of the group, picking her out at the strongest in terms of emotion and resilience."

Copies of Endgame were pulled from shelves in the Netherlands after apparently listing the names of the two royals allegedly embroiled in a race row with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Publisher Xander published a statement saying the "error" was being rectified.

Later controversial commentator Piers Morgan announced the two names during a live TalkTV segment. It is understood the royal family is now "considering all options," including legal action.
