As illegal migrants pack the port of Calais French police say they’re “completely overwhelmed” by the crisis, in the latest disaster for Emmanuel Macron. Lorries are surrounded by migrants attempting to get to the UK – and police say they are “struggling to make a meaningful impact” in their attempts to stop them.

A GB News reporter visited the port which is being deluged by migrants – reportedly mainly young African men – who are dicing with death to make the journey across the English Channel by clambering on top of trucks.

Shocking videos revealed migrants waiting near roundabouts and junctions, ready to pounce onboard trucks and lorries as they slow down due to the nature of the roads. There are just many migrants roaming around Calais during daytime – but the problem gets worse at night.

The perilous journeys made by small boats across the Chaneel is what the Government is currently focusing on. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak promised emergency legislation to deem Rwanda a safe country and a new treaty with the African nation after the Supreme Court ruled the policy to send Channel migrants on a one-way ticket to Kigali was unlawful.

It’s the latest in a string of disasters for Emmanuel Macron, who came under fire from residents of Marseille last week as he struggles to deal with a bloody drug war on the streets of France’s second city.

While his main rival, Marine Le Pen, has hailed the victory of far right candidate Geert Wilders in the Netherlands’ most recent general election – as she herself leads the French president by nine points in the polls.

Meanwhile Conservative MP Mark Francois has set out a solution to get a grip on the small boats crisis calling for emergency legislation on the Rwanda policy to include a “notwithstanding” clause to direct British courts to ignore the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

Mr Francois said: “Let me give you some feedback from the frontline. I tend to go out canvassing in my constituency twice a month. I was out in the cold on Saturday morning and I got some pretty direct feedback on this. The boats and immigration came up again and again and again.”
