Brit gran ‘may have been stabbed to death seven times’ in Italy as she slept
A British grandmother may have been stabbed seven times in Italy, as she slept.
Michele Faiers was reportedly found dead by Italian police, the carabinieri, with seven stab wounds to her neck.
The 66-year-old reportedly shared the house with Michael Whitbread, 74, in Verratti, a small town in eastern Italy.
According to reports Ms Faiers’ body was found covered with a white sheet but there were no signs of a struggle.
Mr Whitbread, from Torquay, reportedly left the building and is now being looked for by the carabinieri and there are fears that he may have left Italy altogether.
In a statement, Colonel Alco Greco said Ms Faiers may have died three days ago.
Speaking to the Times, one source said: “She was found on the floor in her bedroom next to the bed, dressed in underwear and covered by a white sheet.
“There was no sign of a struggle and she was possibly stabbed in her sleep but we await the forensic examination to find out more.”
Ms Faiers was allegedly discovered by a friend of the couple who had tried ringing them but was unable to get through.
The friend then reportedly travelled to their home, found their front door keys in the lock and alerted authorities.
Ms Faiers’ death comes just days after she was sharing photos of sunsets online.
The Mail spoke to a neighbour who said the couple were “quite private and didn’t really interact with the community”.

The reason for this was allegedly because “they couldn’t speak much Italian”.
The neighbour added: “They had three dogs and the last time I saw them a week ago they were in the garden in front of their house but there was nothing untoward.”
Following the discovery of Ms Faiers’ body, Mr Whitbread has been described as a “suspect”.
The Foreign Office has confirmed they are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Italy and they were in touch with local authorities.
