Model disgusted by AI deepfake video of her getting dressed on TikTok

A model has spoken of her shock after a weirdo used Artificial Intelligence to create a deepfake video of her changing clothes.

Nadia Zalecka is a model represented by Not Another Intl in Dublin, Ireland, and who has a considerable following on TikTok, where she shares videos of her outfits. But one of the clips was seized upon by an unknown person, who changed Nadia's face to look East Asian and then purported to be her, under the name Mirai Karlsson.

In her clip, 20-year-old Nadia starts from scratch and builds an outfit, as she does in many of her videos. The thief used the video and shared it to Instagram, where it raked in nearly 7,500 likes and dozens of adoring comments.

"It's so so scary. One of my TikTok followers came across it and tagged me. People need to realise how bad it actually is," she told the Daily Star.

She said she was "honestly really shocked and upset" when she was alerted to the video.

"It was so scary seeing my video being manipulated so easily, it’s flooded with comments praising and supporting this fake person and little do they know it’s completely fake and my body is being used," she explained.

"If it wasn’t for someone tagging me I would’ve never seen it which is even more terrifying."

The Mirai Karlsson profile has over 166,000 followers and has shared over 1,200 posts, all of which appear to have had AI software used on them.

Nadia added that people have used her likeness before, and even added her name and pictures to an explicit website.

"I’ve had people impersonate me on dating apps," she said. "I’ve also seen some of my pictures on an 'AI undress' website, which was really uncomfortable and gross," she explained.

She said she was searching online for an article written about her when she found a website with a picture bearing the caption 'Nadia Zalecka nude leaked photo'.

She said: "It made no sense since I never shared any nude pictures. I clicked on the link and it said to pay a specific amount of money to 'AI undress' the image."

Nadia added that she doesn't even know how to begin going about complaining about the issue.

Models and celebrities have complained about their likeness being stolen or impersonated since the recent rise of Artificial Intelligence.

Just this month actress Scarlett Johansson started legal action against an AI app that used her name and likeness in an online advertisement without permission.

Instagram has been contacted for comment via its parent company Meta. TikTok has also been contacted for comment.
