Aurora police arrest 16-year-old in fatal shooting of Miguel Angel Saucedo Araujo
Aurora police arrested a 16-year-old boy Sunday in connection with an Aug. 23 fatal shooting of a man in the Del Mark Park neighborhood.
The boy, whose name wasn’t released because he’s a minor, was arrested on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated robbery. Police said in a news release that more arrests in the shooting are expected.
Police said Miguel Angel Saucedo Araujo, 49, was shot early in the morning Aug. 23 near his home after he and his son confronted thieves taking off with scooters that were parked in the family’s backyard.
Police said officers arrived at the home in the 900 block of Paris Street shortly after the shooting. Officers tried to provide care to the man, but he died at the scene.
The man and his son woke up to the sounds of two people stealing the scooters. When the suspects rode away on the scooters, the two got in their pickup and chased them.
During the chase, shots were fired at the pickup, police said. The man and his son returned home, where a vehicle drove by and fired several rounds into the home.
One bullet struck the man, fatally wounding him.
